It finally begins: the overtures of "classical" symphonies often quote key themes, which are then elaborated in the following movements. The opening of Südtirol Jazzfestival Alto Adige also features leitmotifs that will shape the festival, such as the "Iberian" focus, the exquisite nature of many concerts, the experimentality and "comeback" of bands and soloists who have already performed in South Tyrol. At the Waltherhaus - one of the festival's "historic venues" - pianist Marco Mezquida will introduce a project featuring eleven musicians from Spain and Portugal, to be heard only this evening. The colourful troupe will be joined by Mexican singer Fuensanta Méndez and Dutch musicians Reinier Baas and Joris Roelofs, who took part in the opening concert in 2017.
