#55 - Laser

Over the past ten years, Finnish saxophonist and composer Pauli Lyytinen has recorded more than 20 albums with his ensembles. The musical spectrum ranged from free improvisation and free jazz to pop and contemporary music. The Icelandic guitarist and composer Sigurdur Rögnvaldsson, who lives in Helsinki, was educated at the Royal College of Music (Kungliga Musikhögskolan) in Stockholm and creates a distorted, rocky sound. Together, the two musicians lead this multinational Scandinavian ensemble, which sovereignly moves along the boundaries between jazz and rock. Laser aren't afraid of extensive improvisations and of occasional excursions into Balkan brass traditions.
