Relaxation World Music is certainly not what Stefan Pasborg and the Gambia-born Dawda Jobarteh do here. Nevertheless, one can only recommend this great melange of Kora (West African lute-bridge-harp) and western drums. Two musical cultures and two continents come together and ignite a rhythmic firework. On their CD "Duo" released in 2016, the two of them also interpret pieces by Charles Mingus, Ornette Coleman, Albert Ayler and Don Cherry in addition to their own compositions, which melodically refer to the West African Griot tradition and European folk music. Jobarteh's playing is sometimes reminiscent of a hard rock band's guitar sound. A melting pot, or: creative music without borders.
