Two leading musicians on the Austrian avant-garde scene will perform in South Tyrol as a duo: 32-year-old Benny Omerzell plays in Kompost 3, a Viennese band, and in the Jazz Orchestra in the Vorarlberg region. He studied piano at the Piano Conservatory in Feldkirch, where he also discovered his passion for improvised music and performing arts. He’s been living in Vienna since 2008. The 25-year-old Mario Rom leads the Interzone trio, which is the next new thing according to critics. In 2007 he won the Marianne Mendt Jazz Competition. Back in 2010, he was selected as the only Austrian musician in the ‘Generations Unit‘ band during the international jazz meeting in Frauenfeld. They then went on to release their own CD in 2011 led by Adrian Mears.
