Songs from Vienna… with a twist. The Austrian name ‘Strottern’ comes from the old Viennese word ‘trotter’, which stands for ‘crook, tramp or outlaw’. In Viennese it also stands for ‘tinkerer’ or ‘someone who recycles’. And that’s exactly what the Strottern do with the rich heritage of Viennese songs. “The performance is executed cleverly; it’s perfectly staged and even pieces which should be dead serious or sad become belly-achingly funny. It doesn’t matter what they do: from Wilhelm Busch in the Viennese dialect, the shimmering texts dipping between morbid melancholia and blunt banter of their befriended poet Peter Ahorner, or playing classics with a new twist.”, recounts the Süddeutsche Zeitung about the two, who will perform in South Tyrol with trumpeter Martin Eberle.
