The fact that the four musicians shared a flat in the 3rd district of Vienna led to the creation of Kompost 3 in 2009. In 2010, the quartet released their debut CD, recorded live in a studio without the aid of overdubs. Fast-forward to 2015 and the Standard described the ensemble as the “band of the hour in Austrian jazz”, after having heard their performance at the Vienna Konzerthaus. In free improvised sessions, Martin Eberle, Benny Omerzell, Manu Mayr, and Lukas König developed a well-thought and balanced orchestral soundscape from trashy sound resources, where solos only play a marginal role. In 2014, the group, which had released their independent CDs under their own label, Laub Records, was awarded the prestigious Bremen Jazz Award.
