It couldn’t get any easier than this: three musicians, three dozen instruments, some of their favourite tracks, and off to the studio to record they go! The result of this “interactive exchange of instruments” is the ‘Think of Two’ CD released in 2014, where David Helbock leads the trio with playful grace across cultures. The name of the band is no coincidence: “Freedom doesn’t always equate with chance (randomness). I also like to play using traditional composition techniques, let chance take over and which results into random control. Even without that slash [in the name]” explains Helbock, who originally comes from the Vorarlberg region but now lives in Berlin, and whose most important role models are Thelonious Monk and Brazilian polystrumentalist Hermeto Pascoal.
